Accompanying a singer, an instrumentalist or even an ensemble or choir is an artform. I can't tell you how many times I have encountered brilliant pianists who simply do not accompany well. I started accompanying choirs at the age of 11. It all began with accompanying my middle school chorus for one selection on our winter concert....and that was it! I was in love. From that point on, I accompanied every single concert, competition and rehearsal that I could, fine tuning my skill to master my craft. Some of the most important skills I've developed over the years are the ability to know what the conductor or soloist will do, sometimes even before they do, and the ability to instantaneously respond. However, I am not only a great follower, I am also a great director as well as I have been teaching nearly two decades.
